Working with typography for the magazine »Vorn«

Complete series of 8 Pieces.

The sole specification of our client – the free-thinking art magazine »vorn« – was that we should respect no rules as we played with type. So we treated the alphabet like a fabric and asked ourselves what Vivienne Westwood, Geoffrey Beene or Rei Kawakubo would make of the letters. An art directrice experimented with the material, much as a fashion designer would. She produced a range of patterns, each leading to the creation of a different item of clothing. The eight garments – offered here is number 3 – made of the Akzidenz-Grotesk typeface reveal what a rich and variable means of expression type is: From seductive lace dress to elegant evening attire or austere uniform, they can all be tailored from this simple fabric. Type is just as versatile as fashion: it can surprise and disguise, entice and improvise.
